Our mission is to develop the intellect and character of each learner by providing the opportunity for an outstanding bilingual education with a global perspective.

Learning

BES provides a challenging dual language program that engages learners through inquiry and collaboration. We encourage our students to think critically, to take risks and to be creative. We challenge learners to strive for personal excellence, and we value the intellectual, social, artistic and physical development of each student, which have a significant impact on his/her academic achievements and personal growth. We aim to provide a stimulating environment that fosters a life-long love of learning.

Character

We assist students in developing strength of character by learning to make appropriate choices and by taking responsibility for their actions. We expect BES students to embody the attributes of the learner profile, to take thoughtful and appropriate action, and to develop their unique potential. We seek to inspire the compassion and international mindedness necessary for learners to contribute responsibly to the global community.

Community

Respect for individual differences and appreciation of cultural diversity are central values of BES. We celebrate the open exchange of ideas between our learners and the community and strive to create a climate of inclusiveness. We encourage all members of our learning community to contribute actively to the energy and enthusiasm for learning that characterizes the BES experience. BES is committed to creating a caring and supporting learning environment by establishing a partnership of collaboration among children, teachers, staff, parents and members of the community.

At BES the student is at the centre of our educational project: teachers recognise and evaluate each individual with the aim of developing a constructive relationship that stimulates not only personal awareness but academic growth.

Students are constantly involved in research which is mainly conducted in groups. We offer support so that the pupils grow with self-confidence, that they be caring towards others and above all flexible so that they may easily adapt to the constantly changing world.

Global Competence

The BES School community guides students to become global citizens who have the capacity and disposition to understand and act on issue of local and global significance. They are challenged to investigate ideas, weigh perspectives, communicate ideas, and take action.

We aim for our students to be curious and attuned to the workings of their world, its cultures, languages, and systems. They investigate big ideas that one might find in news headlines, such as the truths and consequences of climate change, impacts of artificial intelligence, innovations for the provision of food for the world’s growing population, accessibility of clean water, the refugee crisis, the ways that world governments interact, and the protection of civilizations, to name a few. They ask significant questions and analyze the credibility of information. They examine issues in their local context and make connections to global ones.

The International Baccalaureate Organization’s mission to recognize that other people, with their differences, can also be right, is central to the BES curriculum, which prompts students to examine issues from multiple perspectives. They identify, articulate and analyze their own and others’ perspectives and the many influences on these ways of thinking. They consider the ways that cultural interactions, opportunities, knowledge and resources can affect perspectives. Historical and cultural knowledge, as well as an understanding of contemporary events, are essential to their formation of perspectives.

As global citizens, BES students can communicate ideas with diverse audiences through interactions with students, experts, and groups outside of the school. They develop skills of collaborative learning and problem solving. Students develop effective approaches to using technology and media to grapple with ideas together.

BES students, in their processes of becoming globally competent, know that they have a role to play. They know that to make a difference in the world, they must first recognize their own agency or capacity. They learn to identify opportunities, think innovatively, identify barriers, and create and evaluate plans to take action, mindful of ethical responsibilities, the various perspectives that are at play, and the consequences of their actions. Students learn to think like historians, scientists, and artists as they apply knowledge and methods to real issues. They realize the interconnectedness of the world and its complexities.

Learner Profile

The aim of all International Baccalaureate programmes is to develop internationally minded people who, recognizing their common humanity and shared guardianship of the planet, help to create a better and more peaceful world.

We are aware that each person learns in a different way: personal and emotional development, age and individual awareness are all key factors.
