History / La storia
The Bilingual European School of Milan is currently in its tenth year of operation. Initially established in 1999, as a natural continuation of the British American pre-school, with which it shares a building, the Bilingual European School has grown rapidly over the years.
La Bilingual European School of Milan è funzionante da dieci anni. Nata all’inizio nel 1999 come naturale evoluzione della scuola materna anglo-americana con la quale condivide l’edificio scolastico, in seguito si è sviluppata in modo straordinario.
In its first year, the school opened with just 12 elementary students and two staff. The student enrollment for the current school year stands at 270 and the number of teaching staff, at over thirty.
Quando ha aperto i battenti, gli alunni della scuola primaria BES erano solo 12 e gli insegnanti 2. Attualmente, gli iscritti sono 270 ed il corpo docente consta di oltre trenta insegnanti.
In addition to the phenomenal student growth in the elementary school and the development of a broader and more balanced curriculum, the school has also introduced a Middle School. At the start of the 2006 – 2007 school year, BES opened its doors to its first class of sixteen middle school students. In the current school year there are two classes of Middle School with a complete cycle of Years 6, 7, and 8 projected for the 2010 - 2011 school year.
Non solo la scuola primaria ha visto aumentare vertiginosamente il numero degli iscritti ed ha adottato un programma didattico più articolato e bilanciato, ma nell’anno scolastico 2006-2007 è stata inaugurata anche la scuola secondaria di primo grado, accogliendo nella prima classe 16 alunni. Nell'attuale anno scolastico, la scuola secondaria di primo grado si è ampliata con una ulteriore classe e, per l'anno scolastico 2010-2011, è previsto un ciclo completo di Year 6, 7 e 8.

As a candidate PYP (Primary Years Programme) school, all members of our community aspire to the Learner Profile of the IBO.
La BES, essendo candidata come scuola "PYP" (Primary Years Programme) al riconoscimento dell’International Baccalaureate Organization, prevede che tutti i suoi alunni aspirino al "Learner Profile" dell’IBO.
The Learner Profile is central to the work of BES. It represents our aims and it drives the curriculum framework. In addition it represents clearly and explicitly the qualities of internationalism which we hope will characterize all members of our community: our students, our parents and our faculty and staff.
Il "Learner Profile" è il fulcro di tutta l’attività scolastica. E’ fonte di ogni motivazione e struttura portante del programma didattico. Rappresenta inoltre in modo chiaro e inequivocabile lo spirito internazionale, che si auspica sia la dote principale di tutti coloro che partecipano alla vita della comunità scolastica: studenti, genitori e corpo insegnante.
